Club Info

A typical meeting includes:
An Opening during which members have a chance to give a toast, present a new word and tell a joke (humerous moment).
An impromptu speaking session during which members learn to think on their feet. This is usually a very entertaining part of the evening. The Dinner is usually served towards the end ot this session. Members are encouraged but not obliged to have a dinner.
Prepared speeches from five to seven minutes each. Speakers choose the topics, which vary greatly. Each speech has a set of objectives, described in a manual, so that members learn public speaking techniques while getting practice and gaining confidence.
Evaluations which are an important part of a Toastmasters meeting. Each speech is evaluated in a positive, supportive way. The speaker learns about his or her strengths and also receives helpful suggestions for improvement.
Educational tips and workshops on a variety of topics ranging from giving effective evaluations to writing winning speeches (conducted on an occasional basis).
A closing including the presentation of awards for best table topic, best evaluator, and best speaker.
Socializing after the meeting is encouraged during “post-toasties”

How it works:
If I join, how do I start the speaking program?
Members begin at their own pace by working through ten speech projects in the Communication and Leadership Program manual. This manual helps members develop the basic skills needed to prepare and present an effective speech; for example, organizing a speech. They also begin to take on a club role at weekly meetings. Each club role is laid out on a sheet of paper so there are no surprises.
Once I complete the basic manual, what kinds of advanced manuals can I choose from?
- The Entertaining Speaker
- Speaking to Inform
- Public Relations
- The Discussion Leader
- Specialty Speeches
- Speeches by Management
- The Professional Speaker
- Technical Presentations
- Persuasive Speaking
- Communicating on Television
- Storytelling
